It's now or never for Arsenal

Ex-Arsenal defender Sol Campbell believes this season is the Gunners' "best chance" to win the Premier League title.

Arsenal have not won the league title since 2001-02 but can take a significant step towards their first league crown in over a decade - should they beat title-rivals Manchester City on Monday.

A victory over Manuel Pellegrini's men, combined with anything less than a win for leaders Leicester City, would see Arsenal top the pile on Christmas Day.

Campbell, who won two league titles with the club, is reluctant to make a prediction on the eventual winners with only 16 league games played, but feels his former club must capitalise on the season's unpredictability.

“I’d love them to do it but I don’t like tipping people too early," Campbell told

"But if they are going to have a chance to win it’s definitely going to be this year. Sometimes opportunity knocks and they are responding. The best chance they’ve got is this year.”

Arsenal lead City in third by a solitary point, but despite the minor advantage, Campbell thinks their rivals' near-unrivalled plethora of quality may prove pivotal in the title race.

"City have the bigger squad and when injuries kick in they will have depth," he added. "That’s the only thing that could halt Arsenal – the depth of City’s squad.

"When everyone is getting tired come February they’ll have impact players who can come on and make a difference. That’s the only thing I’m worried about.”
