Mesut Ozil set to be rewarded with a new contract at Arsenal

According to the Mirror on Sunday, Mesut Ozil is set be rewarded for his awesome assist-making performances this season by being offered a new long term deal with the Gunners.

The 27-year-old German World Cup winner still has two years left on his current Emirates deal, but Arsenal want to keep Ozil under lock and key until 2019.

Were Ozil to sign a new contract in North London, the playmaker is sure to receive a pay hike on his current £140,000-a-week deal.

All in all, it’s been a good couple of days for Ozil, after he stepped out with Mandy Capristo last week to confirm the couple are back together.

We can also only assume that Ozil’s happiness off the pitch is a reason for his amazing performances of late for the Gunners.

Since 2008, Ozil has registered 94 assists in data pulled from just the top 5 European Leagues, and the Arsenal man trails Barcelona’s Leo Messi by just five assists.

The 27-year-old playmaker also has the best games/assist rate in Premier League history, averaging one assist every 2.71 matches.

Ozil also owns a new Premier League record: he’s the first player in Premier League history to assist a goal in 6 consecutive games.
