Arsenal star edging Leicester duo and Spurs frontman in race for recognition

Mesut Ozil is the bookmakers’ new favourite to be voted the PFA Player of the Year for 2015/16 after a memorable month.

The Arsenal playmaker set up five goals and got his name on the scoresheet with the second against Bournemouth in a December to remember as he edged closed to Thierry Henry’s record.

Henry set up 20 goals in a single Premier League campaign 13 years ago and Ozil is now on 16 with just one match of 2016 under his belt.

And Betfair have responded to his stunning form by making the German their new PFA Player of the Year favourite.

At 3.0 he is narrowly ahead of Jamie Vardy (3.5) in the market after the Leicester forward’s quiet few weeks.

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is the current 6.0 third favourite ahead of Rihad Mahrez (6.2) and young strikers Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku (both 12.0).
