MATHIEU DEBUCHY is convinced that Arsenal will be serious title challengers next season.

The Gunners have lost just two league games in 2015 to suggest they now have a squad capable to mount a strong challenge for top spot.

However a slow start, in which they won just nine of their opening 20 league games, means they sit third in the table, level on points with second placed Manchester City but 13 points behind champions Chelsea.

But Debuchy believes Arsene Wenger's side will be able to carry on their current form next season and can win a first title since the 2003/04 season.

"I am convinced that we will challenge for the title [next season]," he told Arsenal Player.

"Every big club wants to win it, Arsenal is a big club and it is definitely a target for us all."

Debuchy arrived at Arsenal last summer from Newcastle in a £10m deal.

But the Frenchman has suffered an injury-ravaged first season at the Emirates with ankle, shoulder and hamstring injuries limiting him to just 15 appearances in all competitions.

It was no surprise, given those two results, that once again we set our stall at Old Trafford to defend first and foremost, and look to hit the home side on the counter.
