Everton have joined the race to sign striker Lukas Podolski, but face strong competition from clubs throughout Europe.

Podolski looks certain to be leaving the Gunners this summer after slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, and Everton could offer him the chance to stay in the Premier League.

However Schalke and Wolfsburg are keen to take him back to Germany, while Turkish giants Galatasaray have also declared an interest in the striker.

All three clubs, along with Everton, have been credited with an interest in the Germany international, who has returned to Arsenal after an unsuccessful spell on loan at Inter Milan last season.

Galatasaray could force Everton, Wolfsburg and Schalke into upping their approaches for Podolski, as manager Hamza Hamzaoglu says the Turkish giants are interested in the player along with Marseille forward Andre-Pierre Gignac.

"Podolski and Gignac are both on out shortlist," he told NTV Sport. "We have not yet entered direct talks." ...
