Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal to bounce back to winning ways when they host Bournemouth at Emirates Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Merson told Sky Sports: “Arsenal were flying, and then they go and get beat badly by Southampton.

“They still won’t have a better chance to win the league than this season, and with that in mind, I do not see Bournemouth getting anything at the Emirates.

“Wenger will want a response from his side, and while the Gunners might concede, I think they’ll win relatively comfortably.” 28/12/15

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly decided to offer Mikel Arteta a position on his coaching staff at the end of the season.

The midfielder, who has struggled with a recurring calf injury of late, is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium in the summer and the club are not expected to extend his terms.

However, according to numerous reports, if the 33-year-old does opt to call time on his playing career, Wenger is keen for him to remain in North London.

The Spaniard is known to be taking his coaches badges and has spent some time leading the club's academy this term. Arteta joined the Gunners from Everton in the summer of 2011. 27/12/15

A group of angry fans have launched a petition calling for Jon Moss to be banned from refereeing future Arsenal games.

The Gunners missed the chance to go top of the Premier League on Boxing Day as they were thrashed 4-0 at Southampton, although the validity of three of the goals has been called into question.

Steven Davis appeared to veer offside in the buildup to Cuco Martina's opener - a contender for goal of the season - while Laurent Koscielny was seemingly fouled as Shane Long scored the second and the third resulted from a corner which replays showed should have been given as a goal kick.

In the petition started on the change.org website, the Arsenal fans reasoned: "The problem is that Jonathan moss ( referee ) made many mistakes that cost Arsenal goals during the game against Southampton, there are no punishments given to referees for mistakes like these that cause long term problems and unfair advantages.

We are calling for a punishment or ban from Arsenal games for Jonathan moss." 27/12/15

Mesut Ozil has said that "there is no rush" for him to extend his contract at the Emirates.

The German international has been in impressive form for the Gunners this season – registering 15 assists in the Premier League, including two in their 2-1 win over Manchester City on Monday night.

It is understood that Arsenal are keen to further extend the World Cup winner's deal, but Ozil has insisted that there is no reason to panic.

"There is no rush to sign a new contract," Ozil told Kicker. "My current deal runs until 2018. That is still two-and-a-half years. There are no talks at the moment.

"I can only say that I am very happy in London. My decision to leave Real Madrid for Arsenal was the right one. There has not been a single day, apart from whenever I was injured, that I did not feel great here."

Ozil, 27, joined the gunners from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and is fast closing on 100 appearances for the London side. 23/12/15

Arsene Wenger has insisted that it is "too early" to talk about his Arsenal side potentially winning the Premier League title.

Leicester City currently sit top of the table by two points, but tonight's 2-1 win over Manchester City has made the second-placed Gunners the favourites with the bookmakers to lift the trophy for a first time since 2004.

However, when asked about his team's chances, Wenger provided a cautious response. "It is too early to talk about the title but we are up there.

It gives us confidence. I believe we have a very strong spirit, there is life in the team," he told Sky Sports News.

On Boxing Day Wenger's men travel to Southampton. 22/12/15

Mesut Ozil has spoken about Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea, describing the Portuguese as a "special manager".

Mourinho was axed from his post last week with the Blues just a point off the Premier League relegation zone, a decision that surprised playmaker Ozil, who worked under Mourinho at Real Madrid.

"I'm surprised by what happened with Jose," he told The Times. "He's a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.

"I know how special he is as a manager. He is a manager who always supports his team and always protects his team. He's getting the best out of any player.

"I wish him all the best for the future, and also that he's healthy and fine." 21/12/15

Arsene Wenger has told Sky Sports that he wanted to sign Man City forward Raheem Sterling last summer.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the French tactician heaped praises on the most expensive English player ever (worth £49 million) and revealed that he had planned to sign the highly-rated youngster.

When asked about what he thinks about Sterling’s transfer from QPR to Liverpool, he explained:

“We (Arsenal) had many players on the flanks, but Sterling was at QPR – that’s where we should take the players.’’

“We watched him but you miss obvious players. The history of every club is full of top players that you missed. At the time Liverpool were quicker.” He added:

“For me Sterling is a top-class player. It’s a good buy for Man City. An expensive one, but they can afford it. Personally I like him.’’

“I didn’t make a bid because he plays in an area where we have plenty of players. We have Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Alexis Sanchez. Jack Wilshere can play there, Serge Gnabry.’’

The 21-year-old has scored four Premier League goals for Man City this season in 15 appearances, created 20 chances, and provided two assists. In the Champions League, he has scored three goals in six appearances, and provided one assist.

Arsene Wenger's men will face Man City on Monday for their 17th round of Premier League matches at the Emirates Stadium. 20/12/15

Pep Guardiola has reportedly added Arsenal to the list of possibilities for his next managerial role.

The former Barcelona boss has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs amid speculation that he will leave his role at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Both Manchester clubs have been touted as possible destinations for the Spaniard, with the futures of Louis van Gaal and Manuel Pellegrini looking shaky, while Chelsea have also sounded out Guardiola after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

According to the Daily Mail, a move to London as Arsenal boss has now emerged as a possibility as Guardiola "is a huge fan of their style of football under Arsene Wenger".

Wenger, who has been in charge of the Gunners since 1996, is contracted until the end of next season but is undecided about his future beyond that. T

he newspaper claims that Guardiola is contemplating taking an interim job or a sabbatical until the Arsenal post becomes vacant. Guardiola recently revealed that he would announce a decision about his future next week. 19/12/15

Hector Bellerin has revealed he left Barcelona for Arsenal at the tender age of 16 because the Premier League side made it clear they desperately wanted him.

The right-back was set to sign professional terms with the Catalans when the Emirates outfit came knocking in 2011 and he did not think twice about their offer after paying Arsenal a visit.

"When you get to 16 at Barcelona, it's the age that you sign your main contract. I was about to sign that but we knew there were a lot of other options because you always get them from other teams at that time. I didn't have the option to come to Arsenal until I was right about to sign with Barcelona," Bellerin told the official Arsenal website.

"When it came, they were so serious about it, more serious than any other team. They made me feel really wanted. I came here for a weekend. I met the boss and I remember I went to the game. We beat Manchester United and I remember [Aaron] Ramsey scoring. I still have all those images in my mind.

"To be 16 years old, to be able to speak to the boss and get reassured that they really wanted me, plus seeing all the facilities at the training ground and how easy they were going to make it for me to adapt, it all made me tell my parents that I wanted to come here. 17/12/15

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott believes the acquisition of former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has completely changed Arsenal's defence.

In Saturday's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, Cech equalled David James' all-time Premier League record of 169 clean sheets, which he achieved in 223 fewer appearances.

The Czech Republic international has kept seven clean sheets in the league this term, the joint-most, while the Gunners boast the second best defensive record.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, Walcott said: "He's changed us completely in that back four. He's a talker, he believes in us all.

"That's why he wanted to join us and having that presence behind you is always nice. He's very commanding, he's a leader in the dressing room as well.

"From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was [after] what he achieved at Chelsea." 16/12/15

After spending time in the French lower divisions early in his career, Olivier Giroud believes he has more resilience than others.

Olivier Giroud believes spending time playing in the lower divisions in France helped mould him into a tougher player.

The Gunners striker featured in the second and third tiers in his native country for Grenoble, Istres and Tours, finally moving into the top-flight with a transfer to Montpellier in 2010.

Giroud was the highest-scoring player in Ligue 1 with 21 goals as the Herault club claimed the domestic title in 2011-12.

The 29-year-old thinks having to work his way up to the top level of European football, rather than graduating from France's famed Clairefontaine academy like many of his international team-mates, has made him more resilient.

"I definitely feel tougher because the beginning of my career was different to than if I played for Marseille, PSG or Lyon," Giroud told Arsenal's official website.

"When you have to face difficulties it always helps you in the future when you have to be strong and have to face your responsibilities.

"It definitely helped me in my career and that's why I can say that I am tougher today."

However, Giroud, who has scored six goals in his last four outings in all competitions, says he will continue to fight to develop his game.

"I don't want to stop here and I always want more because when all this stops I don't want to regret anything. I really want to give everything to my limit," he continued.

"I have an expression in French. It means the road of success is never finished. You always have to prove to yourself and others that you are competitive and can give your best.

"It's a sport and you have to give everything. We live from our passion because we are really lucky, but it's even more enjoyable for me because I had a different path to all of those players." 24/12/15

Theo Walcott has hailed his teammate Mesut Ozil following Arsenal's 2-1 win over title rivals Manchester City last night.

Both of the home side's goals were set up by the German playmaker, who has now assisted 15 goals in the Premier League this term.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, striker Walcott said: "He sees things that others don't see on the pitch.

He knows what he's going to do before he does it. You just have to make that run.

"When you've got special players on the pitch that provide special moments, it makes our job so much more easier. It's a team game, but you need these players in your team."

The Premier League record for most assists in one season is held by ex-Gunner Thierry Henry, who laid on 20 during the 2002-03 campaign. 22/12/15

Theo Walcott challenges Hector Bellerin to race

Theo Walcott and Hector Bellerin are fast footballers, so quick in fact that the Arsenal pair have an ongoing rivalry over who is the speediest.

In August, right-back Bellerin claimed to have beaten Walcott in a 40m sprint-off, having already registered a time of 4.42 seconds, though unfortunately on that occasion he could not quite remember his time.

Now, England international Walcott, who held the club record for two years after taking it from Thierry Henry, has been seen on Vine, challenging Bellerin to a race. 19/12/15

Mathieu Flamini named on NME People of the Year list alongside Adele and Taylor Swift
Mathieu Flamini may not be at the top of the list for any footballing awards but he has been honoured in a more general way.

The Frenchman has been named in the inaugural NME People of the Year list.

Flamini joins the likes of Taylor Swift, Adele and Scottish MP Mhairi Black in a list of who the magazine consider to be modern-day heroes for their triumphs in 2015.

The defensive midfielder has been nominated for his antics off the pitch rather than on it where he revealed that he is running a global energy company.

And he makes the list ‘for trying to save the world with his geo-energy company GF Biochemicals.’ 17/12/15

Arsene Wenger has been speaking about German international Mesut Ozil, with his comments later published by the club’s official Twitter account.

Arsenal’s club-record signing has been in outstanding form this season, scoring four goals and providing 13 assists in 22 matches to date.

Such has been Ozil’s resurgence that he has scored or assisted at least one goal in each of Arsenal’s last 10Premier League matches, playing a vital role in the Gunners’ moving to second in the table approaching the halfway stage of the campaign.

There is still plenty of football to be played, but Wenger for one knows how lucky he is to have a player of Ozil’s quality at his disposal.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ huge league clash with third-placed Manchester City on Monday, Wenger said of Ozil, “He is the main provider in our team. Players who make you score are difficult to find.”

The resurgent Olivier Giroud for one has plenty to thank the German international for and it will be interesting to see if the former Real Madrid man can maintain his excellent record when he comes face to face with Manuel Pellegrini’s expensively-assembled squad next week. 17/12/15
