Kieran Gibbs has admitted that being an idol and inspiration to young Gunners fans is an important part of being a professional football, as per the club’s official website.

The North London outfit are currently undertaking a pre-season tour in Asia, where the England international and his illustrious team-mates have had the chance to meet young supporters that are dreaming of playing for the Emirates Stadium outfit in the future.

Gibbs has recollected his memories of being a youngster and aspiring to make it to the big time – with the shoe now on the other foot.

“We had a few presentations when I used to play for Croydon Borough and a few Crystal Palace players came along,” Gibbs told the Arsenal official website.

“I remember Bruce Dyer, who was a striker for Palace, came and did a presentation once and that was huge.

“To see any player that you know is playing in the Premier League or the Championship when you’re younger feels like a dream come true. You know how much it means to the kids and it’s great that they’re focusing on the coaches here.

“The game’s changing and you need to stay on top of that. Teaching the kids is important and getting them the right coaching is more important. It’s a great idea.

“It inspires youngsters because when you see players in the flesh - and we’re on the other side of the world to these people so it must mean ever more - it gives you a sense of reality. It will probably help motivate kids more.”

Gibbs, along with Jack Wilshere, is a product of the North London club’s stellar youth academy and obviously an inspiration to other young players coming through the ranks with the Gunners.

The left-back is in direct competition with Spaniard Nacho Monreal for a starting berth in Arsene Wenger’s first team and will hope to pin down a place as first choice for the 2015-16 campaign.
