Jack Wilshere could return from injury a lot quicker than expected

The midfielder could be available ahead of Arsenal's Champions League last-16 second-leg clash with Monaco as his recovery from an ankle injury and subsequent surgery continues

Arsene Wenger has revealed Jack Wilshere could be back in action for Arsenal by the end of February.

The midfielder was initially ruled out of action for three months after suffering an ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in November.

Wilshere underwent surgery and the Gunners were forced to deny the England international had suffered a setback in his recovery, and Wenger anticipates a comeback for the midfielder next month

“Jack is progressing quicker than expected – he could be back by the end of February,” Wenger told reporters.

The Gunners are set to welcome back Mesut Ozil, who has been unavailable after picking up a knee injury in October, against Stoke City on Sunday.

Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini have also returned to training, but Danny Welbeck is unavailable for selection at the Emirates on Sunday.
