ARSENE WENGER is weighing up a bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan

The Germany international's contract with the Bundesliga strugglers expires in June 2016 and he will be sold if he doesn't extend his deal.

According to The Mirror, Arsenal boss Wenger is now considering a £16m move for Gundogan, 24, having previously failed to land him on two occasions.

The Frenchman is keen to strengthen his central midfield options with Sporting Lisbon enforcer William Carvalho, 22, also on his wanted list.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with the Dortmund star, who recently returned from a 14-month injury lay-off, while Chelsea and Liverpool are also reportedly interested.

Earlier this week, Gundogan revealed that he is keen to play in England.

He told German daily Bild: "I'd like to leave the German championship, one day.

"Playing in the Premier League is one of my goals."

Gundogan joined Dortmund from Nuremburg in 2011 and has made 65 Bundesliga appearances for BVB.

Dortmund are in the Bundesliga relegation zone and are also set to lose key man Marco Reus before next season.
