Gabriel could make Arsenal debut on Sunday as £15m defender is fast-tracked into first team

Brazilian defender has flown to Paris to complete the legal requirements on his move from Villarreal and speed up the process of getting a work permit

Gabriel Paulista is being fast tracked into the the gunners first team.

£15million defender Paulista, 24, flew to Paris on Tuesday to complete the legal requirements surrounding his transfer and speed up the process of getting him a work permit.

The Gunners are hopeful that the Brazilian’s whistle-stop trip to France will make him available for Sunday’s home game with Aston Villa.

They have already been granted a work permit for the former Villarreal defender, even though he has not played for Brazil and has not got an EU passport.

Arsenal insisted the 24-year-old is a talent of the “highest calibre”.

They also argued that he could “contribute significantly to the development of the game at the top level in England”.

It is believed Paulista would even have met the new, tougher criteria when the rules are tweaked in the summer as his price tag is above the £10m exemption threshold.
