Arsenal Transfer News

Midfield star misses training as club confirm Arsenal transfer imminent

The Gunners have reached an agreement with Basel to sign the Egyptian international for a fee in the region of £7.3m and they are now waiting on a work permit to complete the deal.

Arsene Wenger is keen to reinforce his midfield during the transfer window with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta all sidelined and at 23 years of age Elneny is a young, cheap option for the Arsenal boss.

Reports emerged last week on sites like transferrumours.co.uk of a deal being a week away but there has been no news in the past couple of days as the clubs wait to finalise a deal.

But Basel have now all but confirmed that Elneny is on his way out of Switzerland as he was left out of today’s training session.

“Absent was Mohamed Elneny, for who there could be a transfer in the coming days,” a statement on the club website read.
