Carl Jenkinson is a summer transfer target for Sunderland, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

The England international spent last season on loan at West Ham, but is wanted on Wearside ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

Dick Advocaat’s Black Cats are said to be ready to pay a £2m fee to secure Jenkinson’s services on a season-long loan.

They face competition from the Hammers who would love to take the former Charlton Athletic man back to Upton Park following a successful spell at the club last term.

The 23-year-old was once viewed as the Gunners’ next long-term right-back, but is now behind Mathieu Debuchy, Hector Bellerin and Calum Chambers in Arsene Wenger’s pecking order. With the latter two players both younger than him, Jenkinson no longer appears to have a future at the Emirates.

Sunderland have reportedly already made contact with the Gunners to discuss the deal and are said to be in pole position to land him...
