ARSENE WENGER insists Arsenal will take confidence from their recent form as they look to return to winning ways against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners saw their 10-game unbeaten run come to an end  against Swansea with Bafetimbi Gomis' 85th-minute header consigning them to a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates.

The result severely dented Arsenal's hopes of finishing second behind Chelsea and defeat at Old Trafford would see them drop to fourth.

And Wenger has challenged his side to show their mental strength and repeat their 2-1 FA Cup win at the Theatre of Dreams earlier in the year.

"We showed a lot of quality but were not very good in our finishing and guilty of giving away a mistake," Wenger told Arsenal Player.

"At the moment we cannot afford that. When you are a defender you cannot give a goal away the way we did with five minutes to go. It's impossible.

"It is [disappointing] but we should get encouragement. If we have done it for 10 games, we can do it again. We haven't lost our quality here, so let's restart on Sunday.

"Of course it makes that game important because the way you respond to a defeat always gives you a big [indication that] the team is strong mentally and that is what is expected of us on Sunday."

I saw talk before the match of Arsene setting up to go with an attacking gameplay having secured victories at City and United this season playing a much more compact game than usual. It was no surprise, given those two results, that once again we set our stall at Old Trafford to defend first and foremost, and look to hit the home side on the counter.
