Aaron Ramsey: I wish Santi Cazorla well but I want to make central role my own

Aaron Ramsey is keen to capitalise on Santi Cazorla's injury lay-off and reclaim a central midfield role at Arsenal.

The Spain international has been ruled out for up to four months after damaging his knee ligaments during last weekend's draw with Norwich to add to the Gunners' mounting injury list.

Cazorla underwent surgery on Friday and Ramsey was given a rare opportunity to play in the centre of Arsene Wenger's midfield against Sunderland, having been forced out wide for the majority of the current campaign due to his teammates' impressive form through the middle.

The Welshman sympathises with Cazorla and the other members of the north Londoner's squad who have been struck down with injury but wants to make the most of his chance to shine.

"I wish Santi a speedy recovery, and Francis Coquelin as well.

"We have been hit hard by injuries this season but it gives players the opportunities to take.

"I have made no secret that I prefer to play in the middle and hopefully now I can stay there.

"My performance today [in the 3-1 victory over Sunderland] was good and hopefully I can keep building on that now to play where I prefer to play."

Ramsey capped his performances against the Black Cats with a goal and is likely to be handed a central berth when Arsenal travel to face Olympiakos in Greece on Wednesday night.
